The Truth About Jeggings

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I will tell you what, I have reformed my opinions about leggings, and the sophisticated offspring, the jegging.

Originally I wanted nothing to do with either. Understandably.

However, in the last 6 months I have worked with more pregnant mamas than ever before, hence the pure appreciation of the jeggings.

I have long been a fan of skinny jeans, and have put many clients into them quite successfully. There is typically quite a bit of cajoling, strong encouragement, and sometimes even bribing. However, once in, most clients don’t turn back.

Now considering that most pregnant women wear leggings for 9 months, the jegging is a natural alternative. Paired with a loose t-shirt or tank top, a great blazer and cute shoes, you’re set, and cute.

Having said that, most clients don’t even go near them unless they are pregnant. Or under 30. I am okay with that. I feel the same way about leggings. Fabulous if you are pregnant or under 30, otherwise just leave it.

If you are looking to find some, try Aritzia who carries COH and Paige jeggings (although the COH have a short inseam). Also, Zara, love Zara. Tons of options for way less money.

All About Dace

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

I knew I would like Dace as soon as I saw her bag.

It’s the brown leather one on the left.

I had never met Dace, but I have loved her line for ages. She is local and she has fabulous style, what else can I say?

I visited her studio to see what she is doing for Fall 2010.

I love it. The Fall 2010 line. Lot’s of silk, and dresses, and sweaters. Perfect fall wardrobe. I think that if I buy the entire collection I should be set.

I also fell in love with the whole space. It is an extension of Dace, of her style, which is evident in all her collections.

If you haven’t seen Dace for spring 2010, you can see it at Violet, The Block, Eugene Choo, Tenth and Proper, or you can go here.

The Perfect T-Shirt

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Jeans and t-shirt. What can I say? It is almost all I wear. My uniform, if you will.

There are about a million variations to this very simple uniform: the style of jeans, the kind of shoes or boots, the blazer or coat, the bag.. It’s endless, and quite fabulous.

I have spent a good number of years trying to find the perfect t-shirt. Many of you can relate, I know.

Let me dedicate this blog to the perfect t-shirt. Firstly, and most important, is the material. The t-shirt should have some hang to it.

Kain has it down.

It is a silk-cotton-something blend that is brilliant, except that it’s quite shear. Which means you either have the right bra or a camisole, which makes is a high maintenance t-shirt, which is annoying. Of course, I have a few and wear them all the time.

Alexander Wang broke into mainstream fashion with his t-shirt.

Initially, I was thrilled, but they pill. Not worth it.

Secondly, it’s the cut. V-necks or scoop-necks are particularly flattering, and the sleeves can’t be too long.

J.Crew has nicely cut t-shirts, good neckline and slim fit.

I haven’t met a client yet who doesn’t look great in these t-shirts.

I should also mention that both Club Monaco and BCBG have copied the Alexander Wang style of a t-shirt, and have done a fabulous job of it. Definitely worth it.
