I love nyc.

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

Well, I’m back.  Had an amazing time and managed to leave New York with room in my suitcase. Barely. I thought I would show you some pictures of my outfits or rather my skinny pant and scarf uniform…oh well!!  It was way hotter than I expected and I didn’t even need my coat(s). I had a blast with my girlfriends and Stella was intact when I returned. A success!

Outfit one. Picked up a pair of J-Brand cropped khaki pants at Intermix(way cheaper) and I thought they went nicely with my Rag and Bone summer shirt and Chloe flats.

My friend Nicole aka “the bride to be” and “hostess extrodinaire”.

Outfit two. Obviously I like scarfs. They were my safety sweater in NYC, as i am never comfortable without a little warmth. My new Topshop blazer with my J-Brand jeans and Lavin flats.

We went out on the town!!!…to Le Bain. It was at the Top of the Standard Hotel and it was amazing. My friend Meghan and I went next door to The Boom Boom Room and checked that club out too. So many stylish people in one room. Note: the blazer. Pretty amazing, no?

So I think that’s it. The rest of the trip I just look exhausted because I never did really sleep. My favourite stores in NYC  continue to be Poppy and Creatures of Comfort in Nolita and Albertine in Greenwich oh and I do love Topshop and Opening Ceremony in Soho. I could have used another week. I will be returning in September and stay-tuned because we are planning some shopping trips in the fall so email us if you are interested. Imagine- all your fall shopping in New York City. How amazing…

A splash of color.

Friday, April 15th, 2011

I love adding a dash of color to my wardrobe. Especially in the spring. Recently, a client asked me about color-blocking, a fantastic new trend this season, and I thought that I would put in some examples and also some other great usages of color. If you aren’t ready to take the plunge completely into color, start by adding a belt or maybe some shoes to a neutral base and see what happens. No need to match.

Also…stay tuned as I am voyaging to the motherland…NYC…and I will be reporting back with all my best outfits and favorite purchases…and I promise they won’t be all for lovely little Stella…or little Lucy…JUST ME!!

This is a great example of moderate color-blocking. Keep a clean base and add a colorful belt. This outfit would work for women from 25 to 75 years old.

This dress would be great for a wedding. The shoes don’t match the belt and that’s the point.

This outfit contains one of my favorite color combo’s, camel/white/black. The color’s say fall but the jumpsuit says “hello spring”. Sass and Bide.

Here is the stylish Sienna Miller in some amazing red booties. A perfect example of how to say spring when it’s freezing outside, say it with your shoes.

This is the outfit I would wear if I was rich and got to pick whatever I wanted from netaporter.com…ok one of the MANY outfits I would wear.

The Roland Mouret blouse would be tucked into the Yves Saint Laurent suede skirt (you definitely don’t want to know the price).

I heart this belt so much…can you believe it’s six hundred and something??? So worth it…in some countries.

Worn with this Isabel Marant Jacket…cause I love everything from her whole world.

Topped off with these lovely little Pedro Garcia wedges. Only they are not so little on my feet.

Oh and this Mulberry clutch.

Mind you I would need to have a full-length mirror to see if it would look good on me.

The Well-Dressed Man

Wednesday, February 2nd, 2011

“Clothes and manners do not make the man; but when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance.” – Arthur Ashe

We are so excited to launch men’s styling at Jessie Carlson Wardrobe. We have received many requests from clients to help their husbands with their wardrobes and have finally decided to take the plunge into dressing men. My ideal well-dressed man is not overly styled or trendy or too put together, he is effortlessly cool. I want my client to feel like he has a great wardrobe filled with pieces that all work together, exactly the same philosophy that we have for women. Our men’s package, “The Well-Dressed Man”, is perfect for the man who wants to get back into the game. Whether it’s your work attire or your weekend wear or both, let us help you feel stylish, comfortable and up-dated.

There are some key elements to a well-dressed man that I really think can jazz up boring work attire or allow you to have some fun on the weekends.

Socks. Never have I been so excited about socks. But they look so good, don’t they? I took these images from The Satorialist.com which has been so influential in men’s fashion.

The Pocket Square. Worn with a tie or instead of a tie. Love the look of them. The Urban Gentleman.com

The Desert Boot. Reminds me of high school (in a good way). Great shoe for spring with khaki pants or a slim jean. shopstyle.com

A Pea Coat for the Weekend. It’s a preppy look but the wool pea coat is versatile for fall, winter and spring. Especially in Vancouver. This image is out of someone’s actual closet. The Coveted.com

A Great Pair of Jeans. I like Nudie Jeans for women and men. The cut is amazing and looks great on the rear. ssense.com

The Cardigan. I wouldn’t suggest THIS cardigan for all men but I would suggest adding a cardigan to any wardrobe. It looks great for work and for play. Rag and Bone.

The Stylish Lady in Need

Wednesday, January 26th, 2011

So excited to announce our winner of “the stylish lady in need” contest. We found that there were many ladies in need of a stylish up-date and it was very hard to pick just one winner. If I had the time I would honestly help all of you, truly.

Jessie and I agreed that, Tova, a mom of three and awaiting another beautiful baby in an adoption process, was the lucky winner. Here is some of her letter:

I need your help because:

I’m a mom of 3 kids, about to have my 4th by adoption. Now I’m not saying that mom’s of 3-4 kids all need help, but this one does. I love clothes, I love fashion, but you would never guess by looking at my closet. I have the least amount of clothes of any of my friends. Mostly I have variations on my mom uniform. Shirts and jeans. At this point I only have two jeans, one is only worth wearing in the garden or painting.I am hoping for some Christmas money so I can get a new pair. However, here’s how that future shopping experience will go. I will check the tag of my old jeans and try and go get exactly the same thing.  :)

The rest of my clothes are inherited from my mom, she was neither my size, nor has she been around for over 5 years. It’s pretty sad. I wear them because I don’t know what to buy and because we have been in the adoption phase (financially speaking for too many years now) I just don’t have the budget to go shopping.

So when Tova is feeling stylish and fabulous again we will be posting it on our blog so that you can witness the transformation.

Stay tuned!!

What To Wear Now

Wednesday, January 19th, 2011

If you are feeling a little dull with your drab muted sweaters and looking to up-date your wardrobe for some spring pizzazz, rest assured, you are not alone. But the question is: what do you wear now? It’s certainly too wet and cold to get your manicured toes into your spring flats, a little too early for a cute spring dress with no stockings and too windy to go outside without your warm coat. So my suggestion is to update a little at a time. A new bright blue cardigan, some suede booties, turquoise jewellery and a couple of different styles pants to help you ease in to spring. If you need some help or even a quick or a long shop please don’t hesitate to call me. That’s what I’m here for.

The New Blue Cardi. I actually bought this one myself. It was cheap, it’s from H&M. It won’t last but I don’t care, I just needed something new and fresh.

H&M

Turquoise Accesories. I absoulutely love turquoise. It reminds me of my grandmothers jewllery box. Definately says spring on top of your warm cashmere cardigans.

turquoise earings

Suede Booties. I found these on shopbop.com. They were only $175 and they are the perfect alternative to your knee-high riding boots.

Sam Edeleman

A Couple of Pairs of Pants. I like the harem pant look. No, they are not for everybody, that’s why I put in my alternative, a slim leg cropped pant. You can still wear socks with them.

Philip Lim and Isabel Marant

A Brown Belt. This was a steal of a deal at H&M. $9.99,  to wear with your skinny jeans, brown boots and your go-to white tee-shirt and your new blue cardi of course.

H&M

A Little Purse. I found this one on sale at Zara. Real leather too! and only $69.00. This would be perfect with your spring trench or military-style jacket. See last week’s blog.

The Almost Spring Dress. Yes, I know its black but it’s silk and who says black is drab? It will look great with a grey tight and boots. Try with a tan or khaki coat or blazer. I absoutely love tan and black together. Very spring 2011…trust me.
