i heart moms

August 27th, 2010 by michelle

My first blog! How appropriate that it be for mama style since I have been immersed in mama-culture for the last 14 months. What I learned about dressing for pregnancy and new mama-hood during that time, was that comfort was the most important factor, second only to NOT looking bigger than I already was! These are a few pieces that I think reflect comfort, style and simplicity. Enjoy!

The Stylish Mama In Waiting

The Stylish Mama In Waiting Jean I’ll leave you to decide about the heels…These pants are great because they are low enough to fit below the belly and don’t have that awful band that shows through t-shirts. JBrand.

The Stylish Mama In Waiting Boot It’s Ok to splurge here because you will be wearing these pre and post pregnancy. Good to have a comfortable stylish boot- to hide your swollen ankles…sigh. Jimmy Choo.

The Stylish Mama In Waiting Jean Jacket Since we are heading into fall let’s pair a jean jacket with our slim pants and long tee. Also, who cares about doing it up? It will look cute open. Acne.

The Stylish Mama In Waiting Tee You don’t need to buy maternity t-shirts. Buy large, if it fits. This one is from James Perse and I highly recommend investing in some comfy, good quality t-shirts. The cost will out-weigh the amount of times you wear and wash them pre and post baby.

The Mama in Waiting Tank Top If you do need a little extra room Heidi Klum makes some great maternity tops. I like the layers in this one. How cute will the jean jacket look over-top? Amazing!

The Stylish Mama In Waiting Leggings Ok, I put both in because you might want options. The print is seasonal and trendy. The black is basic but essential. Get both!! Stine Goya and Splendid Maternity.

The Stylish New Mama

The Stylish Mama Diaper Bag I looked high and low and this was the best one out there. Believe me. Cheaper than Gucci and less lame than anything with the name pickle in it. Note: you will bring it everywhere, you won’t use your purse anymore, you need it to go with anything and it needs to be washable. This one is Kate Spade.

The Stylish Mama Coat This one is perfect because it’s Stella McCartney- but you don’t have to spend a fortune. You want something comfortable and not tight. I suggest the non-puffy parka. You have the whole spring to wear a belted trench, relax in your parka…love that word.

The Stylish Mama Comfy Sweater Coat Love this kind of coat! Great for wearing with your gym clothes (to the gym) or jeans or on days when you don’t feel like getting dressed at all…but you NEED to get to Starbucks. This one is by Pleasure Principle.

The Stylish Mama Top Again invest in some good t-shirts. With all the liquids you need to be able to wash them frequently. This one is James Perse. Note the tank top underneath also good for the breast-feeding element.

The Stylish Mama Sunglasses I threw these in because they are so cool. And you should be cool, Mom. These are Karen Walker. Love Karen Walker.

The Stylish Mama Play Date Card Your new baby’s name with your number and email on the bottom. For all the new mom friends you’ll make…the cutest things in the whole world!! I just had to tell you about these. I’ll save my stationary advice for another blog. Felix Doolittle.

Fall.. Get Excited

August 19th, 2010 by jessie

I might as well tell you, I’m pregnant. This is both exciting news, and an excuse for not blogging.

As you can imagine, this has opened up a whole new world of style. Mama style. And Mama In Waiting Style.

Not only is our family expanding, so is Jessie Carlson Wardrobe. I’m so excited to introduce Michelle Addison, an exceptional stylist in her own right, Michelle will be joining the team for Fall 2010.

Michelle is a mama too, how darling is she with her little sweet Stella?

Together we have put together 2 new packages, The Stylish Mama, and The Stylish Mama in Waiting. Michelle knows all about this, she is a hopelessly stylish mama and was a very recent stylish mama in waiting.

In fact, without Michelle, I would have been a very un-stylish mama in waiting. Maternity clothes can be tricky, see previous post on jeggings.. However, Michelle knows everything about maternity and new mama style.

I can’t think of a better baby shower gift.. Or maybe push present?..

I will be updating soon with my top picks for fall 2010. Thrilled with this seasons looks.

Summer Dresses

May 12th, 2010 by jessie

Sometimes I think about moving somewhere hot so that I could wear dresses all the time. My sweet husband would move to Mexico in a heartbeat, Mexico or somewhere equally as sunny where he could surf. I digress, this blog dedicated to my favourite summer dresses, not where we might live.

I try and convince all my clients to buy dresses. They are, I think, the easiest thing to wear, and they look darling on just about anyone. Flats, heels, thongs, whatever, it all works with a cute dress.

Diane Von Furstenberg, how darling is this? Although, not too thrilled with her hair.

DVF

Anlo, everyday dress, really I would wear this at least twice a week, and much better hair. I always part it in the middle, a part of me wishes I was living in the 70’s.

ASOS, again, everyday dress, and again, great hair.

ASOS pebble print

Shoshana, darling and so affordable it’s silly not to. Note the hair part.. It’s cute right?

Helmut Lang, I love HL, always have. Disappointing hair, I get bored instantly.

Helmut Lang

ASOS, classic work dress, and classic big hair, not the easy to do hair, but always worth the effort.

ASOS pencil work

Plastic Island, another work dress, they don’t have to be this colour, it’s just that I happen to love this colour, it’s slightly more subtle than white.

The ‘If I lived in Mexico Dress’, ASOS.

ASOS maxi dress

When you are out shopping, if you are not already with me, buy the dress. It’s worth it, you will wear it all the time. Just make sure it is the right length, you may have to call me for help with that one.

The Truth About Jeggings

March 27th, 2010 by jessie

I will tell you what, I have reformed my opinions about leggings, and the sophisticated offspring, the jegging.

Originally I wanted nothing to do with either. Understandably.

However, in the last 6 months I have worked with more pregnant mamas than ever before, hence the pure appreciation of the jeggings.

Current Elliot

I have long been a fan of skinny jeans, and have put many clients into them quite successfully. There is typically quite a bit of cajoling, strong encouragement, and sometimes even bribing. However, once in, most clients don’t turn back.

Paige blue

Now considering that most pregnant women wear leggings for 9 months, the jegging is a natural alternative. Paired with a loose t-shirt or tank top, a great blazer and cute shoes, you’re set, and cute.

Having said that, most clients don’t even go near them unless they are pregnant. Or under 30. I am okay with that. I feel the same way about leggings. Fabulous if you are pregnant or under 30, otherwise just leave it.

If you are looking to find some, try Aritzia who carries COH and Paige jeggings (although the COH have a short inseam). Also, Zara, love Zara. Tons of options for way less money.

All About Dace

March 18th, 2010 by jessie

I knew I would like Dace as soon as I saw her bag.

IMG_5226

It’s the brown leather one on the left.

I had never met Dace, but I have loved her line for ages. She is local and she has fabulous style, what else can I say?

I visited her studio to see what she is doing for Fall 2010.

IMG_5232

I love it. The Fall 2010 line. Lot’s of silk, and dresses, and sweaters. Perfect fall wardrobe. I think that if I buy the entire collection I should be set.

I also fell in love with the whole space. It is an extension of Dace, of her style, which is evident in all her collections.

If you haven’t seen Dace for spring 2010, you can see it at Violet, The Block, Eugene Choo, Tenth and Proper, or you can go here.
